While the lens' field of view is not the widest available on the market at 140 degrees, it provides a good view of the road ahead. Fortunately, there is a button for quickly saving a portion of the video (or you can rely on the g-sensor to detect collisions automatically), and voice controls for functions such as taking a picture and turning on or off audio recording work quite well. Its compact size means that the Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 is not equipped with a display. Rather, you will need to access recordings and view the camera's view using the smartphone app. GPS is also absent from the device, which is a disappointment, but this is arguably the sole major feature that is lacking. There is very little you cannot do with the Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 unless you require driver assistance features such as speed camera alerts. Setting it, and forgetting it, it is a simple, subtle and reliable technology.

As for the Sony Starvis image sensors, Viofo uses them for capturing low-light footage, though the lower resolution results in a loss of quality when driving in sub-optimal conditions.
