DJI Mavic 3
The DJI Mavic 3 is the perfect drone for professional photographers and videographers looking for the best image quality in a portable and lightweight package. Dual cameras with a Four Thirds 20MP sensor and adjustable aperture in the main camera provide excellent image quality for both still and video photography. This drone is capable of recording video in 5.1K in standard and Raw formats, as well as still images in Raw and JPEG formats. Although the second camera on the Mavic 3 is much less capable than the first, it can still capture 4K 30fps video as well as JPEG images in the auto mode. However, it can also perform a hybrid zoom of up to 24x. Two models of the Mavic 3 are available, both of which feature a folding design for ease of transportation. The models weigh 895g and 899g, respectively. While the standard model provides 8GB of internal storage, the more expensive and slightly heavier Cine model includes a 1TB SDD that supports Apple ProRes 422 HG video recording. This drone is DJI's flagship consumer model and offers up to 46 minutes of flight time with several incredibly useful safety features. Both models feature a microSD card slot to expand onboard storage. For obstacle detection, the Mavic 3 uses multi-vision sensors, as well as the Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS) 5.0, which uses six fish-eye sensors and two wide-angle sensors. The drone can be configured to fly autonomously around obstacles when detected or to brake automatically if obstacles are detected.
With a camera equipped with an f/2.4 wide-angle ASPH lens, HDR, and up to 2.8 times digital zoom, this drone is able to capture breathtaking 4K videos, Full HD or even 2.7K videos (2704 x 1520), as well as 21 MP photos without losing quality. Autel Evo II Pro
Featuring a 1-inch 20MP camera with an adjustable aperture, the Autel Evo II Pro is capable of capturing photos in both Raw and JPEG formats. Additionally, the camera can shoot video at up to 6K at 30 frames per second, and is compatible with both Standard and A-Log (Raw) colour profiles, which makes it a strong performer with some impressive credentials in this regard. The Evo II Pro is a bright orange folding drone that has a similar folded and unfolded size to the Mavic 3, although we are unable to provide exact specifications. It has a maximum take-off weight of 1999g, so it can carry accessories if necessary and shows that it's a powerful drone despite being slightly heavier at 1191g. Consequently, the maximum wind resistance is 39 mph with a top speed of 45 mph. Furthermore, safety is emphasized with an Omnidirectional Binocular Sensing System that covers 360° and supports collision avoidance and precise GPS positioning. While Autel is less well-known than DJI, its technology and impressive features make it a strong competitor to the Mavic range, not least because the Evo II Pro can shoot video in higher resolution.
Drones with autonomous flight capabilities are not uncommon, but none are as intelligent and successful as the Skydio 2 - a drone offering the best subject tracking available on the market today. Aside from being able to shoot photos in raw and JPEG formats, it can also record videos in 4K at 60 frames per second. Skydio 2 is currently only available in the United States and Australia. The fixed frame of Skydio 2 prevents it from folding, making it less portable than folding drones. The device weighs 775 grams, so it will not be difficult to carry. Furthermore, it features an interesting design in which the battery is magnetically attached to the bottom of the body, with the front propellers pointing downwards and the rear propellers pointing upwards. Among the main USPs of the drone are the market-leading subject tracking capabilities and autonomous flight modes, which allow users to capture incredible tracking videos even in complex environments such as woodlands. A dedicated autonomous flight system with Omnidirectional Super fisheye lenses provides a 360 degree view for collision avoidance in the Skydio 2. It is an impressive drone when it comes to autonomous flight, but it has a battery life of only 23 minutes.
DJI Mini 3 Pro
Thanks to its low weight and regulatory friendliness, the DJI Mavic Mini has taken the drone world by storm. These drones are not only incredibly small and lightweight, but they can also be flown in a wider variety of locations than larger drones. It addresses several shortcomings of previous models in order to be the best DJI Mini to date. The DJI Mavic Mini 3 Pro is the latest incarnation of this popular series. The Mini 3 Pro's compact and lightweight design makes it easy to carry around with the standard Mavic folding design. This palm-sized drone packs a visual punch, so don't be fooled by its size. Thanks to dual native ISO capturing technology, the new 1/1.3-inch 12.1MP sensor produces fantastic image quality with excellent noise handling at high ISOs. With a 24mm equivalent lens and a fast aperture of f/1.7, this drone has some serious credentials when it comes to low light photography. The new model is intended to meet the requirements of both professional and enthusiast drone pilots, as its name implies. Using three types of sensors, the Tri-Directional Obstacle Sensing system detects obstacles from three directions. Together with Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems 4.0 (APAS 4.0), these features facilitate the capture of professional-looking video. It also captures video in 4K and 2.7K formats at 60 frames per second, and FHD at 120 frames per second with Normal and D-Cinelike colour profiles. Digital zoom is also available in 4K, 2.7K and FHD, providing 2x, 3x, and 4x at each resolution.
Ryze Tello by DJI certainly falls into the former category of serious camera drones that are used for taking photos and videos. While the Tello offers very limited photo and video functionality with its 5MP camera, it may provide an inexpensive entry point for beginners to learn how to fly a drone without the risk of crashing an significantly more expensive model. As this drone's camera capabilities are limited, it lacks a gimbal, and its maximum flight time is just 13 minutes, you wouldn't want to purchase it to create high-quality video content. However, this does not preclude it from being fun, and as previously mentioned, it serves as a stepping stone towards drone flying. Tello can be flipped mid-air, taken off from the palm of your hand, and its propeller guards, coupled with its small size and weight of 80 grams, make it a safe drone for indoor use. Generally, the drone's flight distance is limited to 100 meters, and it is operated using a smartphone app and can be programmed using Scratch, which makes it an educational and enjoyable device for children.
PowerVision PowerEgg X
In a market dominated by drones that are not able to fly in rain and land on lakes (with the Wizard bundle), PowerVision's aerial orb is unique in its ability to land on lakes and fly in the rain. The plastic waterproof housing affects image quality, but being able to operate in - and float upon - the wet stuff allows for a great deal of creative freedom. A versatile modular design also contributes to its versatility. As well as being able to operate as a handheld gimbal camera, the PowerEgg X can also be used as an autonomous AI camera that is mounted on a tripod and controlled via hand gestures. Despite its light weight, it does require some effort to remove the protective casing from the body, attach the propeller arms, and set up the controller. There is no class-leading image quality either. Although the PowerEgg X is capable of producing decent, detailed 4K video under bright conditions, its fixed aperture, fixed focus 12MP 1/2.8-inch CMOS sensor cannot compete with DJI's Mavic. The raw video format is not currently available for recording. While the PowerEgg X is not an ideal option in adverse weather conditions, it remains one of the most effective options for short, sharp video sequences.
DJI Air 2S
DJI Mavic Air 2S is one of the world's smallest and lightest drones with a 1-inch sensor. The camera is therefore ideal for photographers and videographers who carry other equipment with them while exploring the outdoors, or simply for those who prefer small and lightweight gadgets. There is a 1-inch sensor with a resolution of 20MP that is capable of capturing still images in both Raw and JPEG formats, as well as video up to 5.4K at 30 frames per second. It is traditionally difficult to fly FPV drones, or first-person view drones, but with the DJI FPV anyone can enjoy the immersive flying experience and high-quality video offered by these drones in an easy-to-fly package. As the FPV drone comes with DJI Goggles V2, the pilot is able to see the drone in first-person, but in order to remain legal and safe, they must always have someone with them to spot the drone in the air. The FPV consists of a fixed upright body and propeller arms, with the propellers needing to be fitted and removed before and after flight. There is a limited battery life, but where the FPV makes up for it is in the sheer amount of fun and the ability to fly at eye-watering speeds of up to 60mph in Sport mode and up to 87mph in manual mode; although the latter is only recommended for experienced FPV pilots. Video is the primary focus of this drone, so still images are limited to JPEGs, which are mediocre in general, but 4K video looks great and can be captured in a Standard profile as well as D-Cinelike (Raw). While its safety features are limited compared to conventional drones, it does use GPS positioning in Normal Mode and sensors warn you of potential collisions and slow it down, but will not stop it, so great care needs to be taken during flight.
